Sunshine Daydream - Evergreen

This bootleg t-shirt the celebrates the 50th anniversary of my favorite show of all time - the famous August 27th 1972 Springfield Creamery Benefit Show on the Old Renaissance Faire Grounds in Veneta, Oregon. A show with arguably the biggest "cultural" impact of the Dead's history ( that was a yogurt joke for all of you ) This show later became known as "Sunshine Daydream" which was the title of the film and album that was released in 2013. The design highlights borrowed artworks from the original posters done by Richard Sutton ( a Springfield Creamery employee at the time who had been doing graphics for Nancy's Honey Yogurt) and merry prankster, Paul Foster aka Fall Posters who had done posters for the Acid Tests. Not listed on the posters were the New Riders of the Purple Sage who also played that day.

After the Europe 72 tour and before setting out on a cross-country tour, The Dead cancelled on a planned show in Santa Barbara and agreed to play this benefit gig to help out some long time friends in tough times. Ken Kesey's family ran the Springfield Creamery in Oregon and helped kick start the organic/whole/health food movement on the West coast but fell into hard times after they got busted for an illegal apple wine bust. The Creamery happened to be located across the street from the local police department and with the already increased focus on Ken and the Kesey family it was no doubt the pigs were on the apple wine like flies to shit. Shortly after the Creamery lost contracts with the local schools and the steady trickle of business started drying up.

The stage faced West on a especially scorching day in Oregon's history, in between songs you can hear Bob Weir remarking on Oregon's usual wet and rainy climate while complaining that "now, it's too damn hot" and later joking that the band will be changing their name to "The Sun-Stroke Serenaders."

This potluck/field trip/benefit show was one of the last collaborative events with the Merry Pranksters since the Acid Tests in the late 60s.

DISLAIMER: THESE SHIRTS ARE NOT PERFECT ( and that's just the way we like them! ) Due to the nature of our production, no two shirts are identical. Each shirt is printed by hand in a small garage by me! Each shirt is a labor of love and may have small ink spots from my grimy fucking fingers or uneven or slightly off-center prints.

If you are truly dissatisfied with the quality of the shirt please email me at [email protected]
